Interrupt's Story and a Quick Update.
In September 2023, after returning from a hacking/pentesting conference, work on the first Interrupt prototype began. After several months of design and engineering, we had a working demo unit. It was rough, with issues in power and NFC functionality, but it was a great first step.
By summer 2024, the prototype was presented to an investor, demonstrating its potential and laying the foundation for manufacturing and a Kickstarter campaign. To move toward production, I hired an engineering firm. Around that time, I made a pivotal decision: replacing the ESP32 with a Raspberry Pi, enhancing the device’s capability and flexibility.
After changing the main processor and starting work with the engineering firm, preparations for the Kickstarter campaign began. By creating ads and running them on Facebook and Reddit, we built a substantial email list, setting the stage for a successful launch.
Halfway through the project, the engineering firm unexpectedly raised their price to nearly three times the original estimate. This was unsustainable, so I parted ways with them and resumed development independently while continuing to prepare for the Kickstarter. The next prototype had flaws and became the version used for the campaign.
Once confident in the capabilities of a new engineering firm and setting a realistic timeline, we were ready to launch.
The response was overwhelming. The campaign raised over $500,000, proving strong support for bringing Interrupt to life, and work on the final stages began.
Since the Kickstarter, we have refined all prior work and started designing and engineering the final version. We’ve reviewed everything to ensure no further revisions to the PCB or design are needed.
Today, we are a couple of weeks from completing the final design and PCB. We had hoped to reach this stage earlier, but a key engineer’s major medical issue caused a delay. He is now recovering and ready to resume work. We want to thank all of our backers for there patience throughout this process.
Progress update.
Enclosure Design Changes
Made some minor cosmetic changes to the enclosure. Updated 3D model coming soon.
Electronics & Hardware
Schematics: Currently working on RF components and should finish next week.
Layout: Finishing the layout this week and next.
Raspberry Pi integration: Finalizing header connection.
GPIO will be added to the final design after all major components have been placed.
Firmware Development
Firmware is underway, continuing to work on UI wireframes.
We have hit a little bump in the road but are still encouraged with all the progress. We hope to have new media and models to show everyone next week. Again thank you guys for your patience.
Note: We are trying to gather new media for our next update.
